Oscar H. Lopez

Oscar H. Lopez was born and raised in Robstown, Texas. Upon graduating from Robstown High School, Oscar attended Texas A&M University. He was awarded the President’s Achievement Award scholarship, and while at Texas A&M, he majored in Political Science, was named to the Dean’s List every semester, and received many academic honors, was named a Finalist for the Bonnie E. Browne Award for Outstanding Graduating Senior in Political Science, and was an executive board member and regulations chairman for the Omega Delta Phi fraternity. He graduated from Texas A&M magna cum laude and ranked 6th in his graduating class.

 

Upon graduating, Oscar worked as a legislative intern for the late Senator Carlos F. Truan of Corpus Christi. Thereafter, he enrolled at the University of Texas School of Law and received the David J. Beck Endowed Presidential Scholarship. While in law school, he was selected to the University of Texas Legal Research Board and the Review of Litigation Law Journal. He was also selected to the American Bar Association National Moot Court Team, which advanced to the regional finals. Oscar graduated from the University of Texas School of Law with Honors, moved to the Rio Grande Valley, and worked in several firms, focusing primarily on personal injury litigation.

 

Oscar joined the Griffith Law Group in 2009 and was named Trial and Appellate Partner shortly thereafter. He has tried numerous cases to favorable verdicts, and has drafted various successful appeals to different Texas Courts of Appeals. He has extensive experience in trucking litigation, construction defect litigation, premises liability, personal injury litigation, appellate law, and commercial litigation. As part of his personal injury litigation practice, he has obtained multiple recoveries for his clients in excess of $1 million. Moreover, in addition to representing general contractors, architects, and subcontractors in construction defect litigation, he obtained a seven figure judgment for a homeowner against her building contractor.

 

Oscar is a member of the Personal Injury Law and Appellate Law Sections of the State Bar of Texas. He also attended the Gerry Spence Trial Lawyers seminar. Prior to joining the Escamilla Law Firm, he was a member of the Texas Association of Defense Counsel (TADC) and the Defense Research Institute (DRI), and is currently a member of the American Association for Justice and the Hidalgo County Bar Association. Oscar resides in McAllen with his wife (Sonia I. Lopez) and their two children: Jose Oscar Lopez, III (16 years old) and Caroline Lopez (12 years old). They are members of Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church, where Oscar serves on the Knights of Columbus Council 12040.
